5 natural remedies for congestion
Sinus congestion occurs when a condition causes fluid to become trapped in the sinuses, making them feel blocked and painful. It’s allergy season and we all know what that means…congestion!
There are many home remedies that we can do to relieve this congestion.
Stay hydrated
The mucous membranes can become inflamed during sinus congestion. However, staying hydrated can help the membrane function correctly. So make sure that you drink lots of water! In general, you should try to drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound you weigh, every day.For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, that would be 75 to 150 ounces of water a day.
Breathing in steam
Inhaling steam can help with sinus congestion. Breathing in steam can help keep the mucous membranes moist. This is particularly important during winter or in colder climates. This may help relieve the symptoms of sinus congestion and encourage the sinuses to unblock.
Raising the head during sleep
To help encourage sinus blockages to clear, try propping your head up on a pillow while you sleep!
Using eucalyptus oil
Eucalyptus oil relieves the symptoms of sinus congestion. It may also help kill germs in and around the nasal passage that contribute to a sinus infection. Either breath in your eucalyptus on a cloth or use it in combination with option number 2 and breathe it in!
Applying warm, wet towels
A warm, wet towel held against the face may help relieve the swelling and inflammation of sinus congestion.
