Top 5 Reasons Why Water Is Essential For Health

No doubt you’ve heard it many times…water is essential for good health.

Water is needed for every single bodily process known to maintain human life, and yet, so many of us do not consume even close to the recommended daily intake.

Adult humans are 60 percent water, and our blood is 90 percent water.

When you’re dehydrated your body can’t function properly, and you become more vulnerable to skin wrinkling, and other health disorders.

Many of us are dehydrated and don’t even know it!

Did you know… once you feel thirsty, your body is already dehydrated?!

If you constantly feel thirsty, that’s a prime indication you may not be drinking enough! Water is important for so many reasons.

Here are our top 5 reasons why keeping hydrated is crucial for your health and well-being:

1 WATER ENHANCES WEIGHT LOSS

Water can speed up your metabolism, and fight the feelings of hunger.

According to scientifically-proven studies, drinking water can boost metabolism by 24-30% over a period of 1 to 1½ hours – helping you burn off a few more calories.

Sometimes we actually mistake thirst for hunger!

HOT TIP: Drink 1-2 glasses of water half an hour prior to eating to help with digestion. Avoid drinking too soon before or after a meal as the water will dilute the digestive juices. Drink water again an hour after the meal to allow the body to absorb the nutrients.

2 WATER FIGHTS CONSTIPATION AND HELPS THE BODY DETOX

Increasing water can enhance the detoxification process by moving waste along our intestines.

Without this, toxins accumulate in our intestines which can lead to numerous diseases, and weight gain.

3 INCREASED MUSCLE

Body cells, such as muscle cells, that are not hydrated properly aren’t able to perform or build to their best ability.

This will decrease not only performance in the gym, but also the ability to increase muscle mass.

4 GLOWING SKIN

Drinking enough water can help you combat a variety of skin issues.

Water hydrates all layers of the body, including the skin. This prevents dryness, and wrinkles. Many celebrities claim it’s the secret behind their supple, glowing, always camera-ready skin.

Water is also needed for detoxification. Often skin breakouts can be caused by an accumulation of toxins, so water can help with acne and breakouts as well.

5 LUBRICATION OF JOINTS

As mentioned in our fourth tip, water hydrates all parts of the body, this includes the joints.

Proper hydration can aid in bringing down inflammation and reducing joint pain.

The cure for your aching joints may be as simple as a glass of water. Water consumption can be crucial in alleviating joint pain, especially if you suffer from conditions like arthritis, gout or a joint injury.

How Much Water Should You Be Drinking?

There are many different opinions on how much water you should be drinking every day. The common recommendation is eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters, or half a gallon.

But specific water needs vary depending on weight, height, age, and activity level. It may also change depending on medications, supplements, and pre-existing medical conditions.
