5 natural remedies for cramps

by | Feb 4, 2020 | Wellness

Cramps suck, that’s just a fact. Whether they be muscle cramps, or cramps from that time of the month, here are some hacks to get rid of them!

1 Essential Oils

Lavender, Peppermint and Clary Sage are anti-inflammatories and analgesics (aka natural painkillers) that help to relieve stress and muscle pain/tension. Rub some on the affected area and wait for the magic to happen. We recommend combining this with a heated compress. Check out our friends at www.saje.com for their amazing remedies.

2 Less Saturated Fats, More Veggies

Higher amounts of saturated fats, trans fats and hydrogenated fats (aka bad fats) can lead to inflammation in your body, which means increased muscle pain. Opt for a more veg friendly diet and reap the rewards.

Pro-tip: Also include more turmeric to relieve inflammation.

3 Don’t Stop Movement

When things are sore, we tend to stop working out and other movements. That couldn’t be further from optimal! Keep up your regular workout routines, or just lighten them a bit. We recommend at least going to a yoga class to keep the muscles moving.

4 Magnesium

Increasing your magnesium intake can drastically improve your muscle cramps and tightness. It promotes healthy muscle and nerve function. Magnesium is mostly found in foods such as bananas, almonds, legumes, and brown rice. It’s also available as a supplement.

5 Vitamin D

If you have regular muscle pain or spasms, you might be deficient in vitamin D. You can find supplements in many forms, but you can also get it from foods like eggs, fish, and fortified milk. Take a walk in the sun to boost your vitamin D. Just 10-15 minutes per day should do the trick!

And there you have it, try some of these out and let us know your wins!
